We stayed in Turkey loop but would try for Cypress or Acorn next time. Campground was ok but hookups were older and water had yellowish color. If I had had a weak heart, I would have croaked right there, right then. Enjoyed hiking on Friends of Beaver Bend trail, you get to follow along the river for a good ways. I wish it would have been explained to us before hand. We didn't know what it was and of course, we thought it was either a tsunami alert or we were being air attacked (armed forces flashbacks). It is the local volunteer fire station responding to a call of some type. Acorn Campground has hot showers and flush toilets while Oak Knoll is more primitive. And one last thing, if you hear an air raid siren at any moment, don't be frightened. New Hogan Lake camping offers a total of 177 campsites in its developed campgrounds. Grounds have all basic necessities with the exception of electricity. If you like to do some star gazing, you will be delighted because it is dark and you can see the night sky through the trees. Beautiful scenery and the view is even more amazing at night. The don't have many safety lights at night. The site is well mapped out and if you just have a tent and need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, make sure you bring a flashlight because it is dark. Should the temps rise to upwards of 90 degrees in the summertime, find relief in the lake, and stay hydrated with drinkable water at the campground. It looks like it needs a very good paint job and there was always a weird smell in that building. Sitting just at the hills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains (picture that for a second) Acorn Campground also sits at the foot of 4,300-acre New Hogan Lake where you can do all of the water things. I don't have many negative points except the shower area could be a bit better. They made my search more than easy to select from. Staff was more than helpful especially when you look around for pizza delivery. No more for me! I decided to give it a go and Acorn was our destination. Visitors can water ski, jet ski, sail, cruise, and fish on the 7-mile-long lake. Campers at Acorn Campground enjoy the great amenities nearby. We camped at Beaver's Bend State Park RV Campground in a Fifth Wheel. New Hogan Lake has over 4,000 surface acres and 45 miles of shoreline. The neighboring site had an abandoned sewer hose strewn across the ground. The fee for Acorn campground is 20 a night and up to 8 people and 2 vehicles are allowed per site. Foil and scraps in the BBQ grill, broken beer bottles in the fire pit. Reservations for Acorn Campground can be made at or by calling 20. Camping is not my forte especially after serving the armed forces where I did lots of camping in all seasons. Sadly, for this to be such a nice park, campers should do better in the way they leave campsites. This past August, my sister thought it would be nice to stay for a week in Wildwoods for some down time.
